This was a great experience. I was in between apartments and needed a place that was not too expensive as I am a young male on a budget. But it would compare to much more expensive rooms for a much lower price. Everyone there is so friendly, plus you get to meet new people from all around the world. If you don't mind sharing a room with others its the best deal in Richmond. I stayed for three nights, and two of those nights there was only one other person in the room and we ended up talking and getting to know a lot about each other...he was from Berlin, Germany. Again...great experience.

Large clean common room and kitchen. Comfortable bed and linens. Friendly and helpful staff. Lots of good restaurants within walking distance. And fantastic price. I definitely recommend HI Richmond, particularly if you're traveling alone.

The best place to stay if you are in Richmond, VA. Staff members are very friendly and polite even for people from foreign countries, excellent location, clean sheets, pillows, oh and even towel is provided. Bed was very comfortable which is important and there is a locker provided that you can use although you need your own padlock or you can buy one if I remember correctly. :) They do cleaning very often although you need to wash dishes by yourself with use of 3 compartment sink (wash, rinse, sanitize) - it's fair deal I would say. You can choose one of few bathrooms which are clean and provide everything you need in order to get clean as there is nice shower and free soap if you don't have your own one. Idea behind activities (movies, dinner etc) is very interesting and allows guests to feel more comfortable and meet other people while discovering cultural differences. Another nice fact is that there is laundry room provided also breakfast is included in price. Despite the timeline regarding breakfast, there is no rush in eating as staff member will ask you if you would like to get something before cleaning up. Oh and the kitchen, you are allowed to store your food in kitchen as long as it's labeled with your last name and checkout date. Additionally there is a lot of equipment regarding cooking so you can do a meal without any problem. There is of course air conditioning in both common room and guest rooms. Last but not least, there is a vending machine which allows you to buy some snacks, which is quite cool. I would definitively come again, please keep it up as it's nice place to stay! ;)

Truly awesome.hostel in the heart of the city. Wonderful desk service, super clean environment, and lots of city suggestions. Beds and linens are well managed and the kitchen is really great. If you have never stayed in a hostel before this would be a great first stop

A low-key but excellent hostel located in the downtown of Richmond. Great location: Virginia Capitol, Civil War Museum and James River are also within walking distance. Everything was well maintained and the bed was comfortable. Restrooms are tidy and clean. Really enjoyed staying there during my travel.

A very clean and well maintained hostel that really enjoyed staying there for a couple of nights. The price is not that cheap considering you'll be staying with 3-5 other persons in a dorm, but considering the competition it's totally worth it. There's a full kitchen with all necessary cutlery for you to cook a gourmet meal if you feel inspired or want to save money. Kroger's grocery store is a few minutes away. I did make a wonderful omelette myself! Everything is provided for your stay, all is asked is to collect your bed sheets and covers and drop them off at the washer room bin on your way out. You can hang out downstairs with other guests and watch TV on big projector screen or pick the brains of the local staff who are just wonderful people with tons of local knowledge and beyond. Josh was quite a informed history and travel lover and I had the pleasure of chatting with him one evening. I highly recommend this place. It inspires you to travel and explore and it really gave my trip a moral boost it needed! :)

I can't actually stay here because I live in Richmond but I am so impressed with the amount of programming they provide to guests. I went to their cooking as a second language class which is also open to the community and had the best time. We made Indonesian cuisine and everything was delicious. They gave us a tour and the room we saw was a handicap accessible family room. It was quite nice especially for the price. Their common area is also pretty cool. If I were a young person traveling through, this would be a great option for a place to stay and also get connected to cool places to go and things to do.

Really impressed with this experience. The rooms and bathrooms were impeccably clean. Ambience was cool and the make your own breakfast was fantastic. I found myself wanting to just hang out at the hostel instead of exploring the city. The right balance of privacy and community. Will be looking for HI hostels on future travels

The staff was very friendly and kind. The property offers free laundry services and complimentary, hostel fare, continental breakfast every morning. Several social events were sceduled, live music by a local artist and wine in parlor area. As well as an Earth Day Celebration. The bed was very comfortable ,the room nice and cool with large windows providing sunlight. The staff is very knowledgeable about the City and provide maps and information should you like to explore Richmond.

That hostel is amazing. The building is gorgeous, everything is so clean, I don't even know how they keep it that way, the beds are comfortable and the staff is indeed absolutely wonderful. I was staying there for the marathon weekend, as were many other guests. And the hostel went above and beyond to acknowledge that: free pasta party the night before, breakfast one hour earlier so we could eat something and they offered to let us shower after the race, even if we had checked out. They didn't have to do any of that, but I'm so grateful they did. A million thanks to them!
